What is Cancer?
Cells within the body undergo continuous cellular division to replenish the number of cells and replace aged or non-functioning cells. Growth and multiplication of cells are instructed by genes present in the respective nuclei of the cells. However, the genetic codes within the genes may be damaged due to various factors, resulting in unreasonable instructions to cells such as overproduction of mutated or abnormal cells.
Cancer refers to an occurence whereby cells divide and grow uncontrollably, leading to significant abnormalities in their appearance and functionality. These abnormal cells can affect the body by causing damage and influencing healthy tissues and organs to perform unusually.
What Causes Cancer?
Several factors contribute to the development of mutated cells and subsequently, cancer. These include:
-
